Health & Wellness

At CMU, we prioritize the physical and mental well-being of our students and offer endless options to unwind, connect or recharge after a day of classes, research or rehearsal.

Our students seem to fit more into 24 hours than most others can imagine. Sometimes when you’re working hard to transform the world for tomorrow, your mind and body need a break today.

Whether it’s a spin class in one of the university’s Group X fitness classes, peaceful meditation in our mindfulness room, lifting on the Cohon University Center weight floor or casual conversation with a mentor, Tartans have the opportunity to thrive in a positive, healthy environment while gaining techniques and tips that foster a lifetime of learning.

Highmark Health Supports New Health, Wellness and Athletics Center

In November 2019, Highmark Health and Carnegie Mellon University announced a $35 million grant from Highmark Inc. to support the construction of a 160,000-square-foot student health, wellness and athletics center that will, for the first time, unite critical student campus well-being services under one roof.

To be located on the corner of Tech and Margaret Morrison streets, the project will preserve and enhance the existing Skibo Gymnasium for recreational use and construct a modern addition on the surrounding site. The expansion will include space for University Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services and CMU’s intercollegiate athletics program, as well as wellness and mindfulness programming, recreational sports, religious and spiritual life activities, and sports medicine.
